What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the application of hypnotic techniques in such a way as to bring about therapeutic changes. During hypnosis the busy conscious mind is encouraged to take a back seat for a while, allowing communication with the inner mind and access to powerful inner resources.

Hypnotherapy is not to be confused with stage hypnosis, Stage hypnosis is conducted using techniques of disorientation whilst hypnotherapy uses trust, understanding empowerment, visual imagery or audio hypnotic language to induce trance states.

Hypnotherapy can be used to treat and overcome a variety of problems, including those listed below. Follow the links to find out more...

> Smoking and unhealthy habits

> Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
> Sport and performance

how does hypnotherapy work?

Discussion of your presenting problem:
The first stage of the treatment is to discuss your presenting problem or issue and agree a “well formed outcome”. This well formed outcome or (goal) will be the what the therapy will tailored around and will dictate the direction and methods used in the therapy sessions. To always ensure that we work towards what you want.

The hypnosis session:
The next stage of session is hypnosis, there is a vast range of techniques and inductions that can be used by your therapist. However the following is fairly typical:

What hypnosis feels like:
In most sessions you will be led into a state of deep relaxation by your therapist using hypnotic language and a gentle guiding absorbing voice, After some time you will appear to be asleep but in fact you are conscious and very aware.
In this state, certain parts of your mind are more receptive, particularly those parts of your mind that are used to induce a change in people.

The majority of people who have experienced hypnosis report feedback that they felt as if they were in a day dreaming state but experienced and remembered all the associated feelings and suggestions that were being spoken to them.

You will always remain in control - Remember that if at any time you feel uncomfortable and want to end the session, then you will be perfectly capable of doing so.

Coming around after hypnosis:
After hypnosis you will be returned to full waking awareness, you are free at this stage to discuss your session with your therapist if you feel you want to, or quite simply keep your experience to yourself, Its up to you.

Payment:
Your therapist will pre agree a price for your treatment and agree the amount of sessions needed after you have agreed your well formed outcome. However in some cases the presenting problem can become more complex,at this stage you and your therapist will review and agree a new treatment plan.
